Krill Projects
Krill [Euphausia superba , Dana]; Extensive experience in south Antarctic (Whales Sound) Krill fishery. The most experienced and independent professional team is gathered together for each krill project. This team has provided its services and support to Japanese, Russian, Ukrainian, Chilean, Norwegian and USA companies, among other krill operations, having directly and indirectly contributed in all of them.
Patents; Recently awarded novelty condition for its Patent named “COMPOSITION BASED IN BONES OF FISH AND CRUSTACEAN AS AN IMPROVED SOURCE OF BIOAVAILABLE CALCIUM, METHODS FOR THEIR PREPARATION AND USES TO TREAT DEFICIENCY OF CALCIUM AND/OR TO TREAT AND/OR PREVENT FRACTURES OR OSSEOUS FISSURES.” This novel product, and highly demanded medical treatment, has been developed by Tharos’ partner, Cornell University PhD Dr. Hector Covacevich, both in partnership through their newly created company Osteos21 Ltd, using krill meal as the main crustacean meal source.
Some Services Provided;
Business Plans and Financial Analysis: Business plan creation suited to each corporation final goal and company long-term working target. Includes financial analysis in line with company goals in relation to krill fishery potential, marketing and sales plants. Projects have been mainly developed on-site as well as co-authors with respected universities.
Trawlers' On-Board Factory Upgrades: On-board factory layout upgrades and calibrations on canned meats, ready-to-eat frozen meats and feed/food-grade whole frozen krill. Permanent on-site and on-board engineering support on processing plant upgrades and working layouts. First group ever to put together on-board Western and former USSR krill-processing technology.
Product Development: Several products have been part or totally in-house developed such as aqua-grade dry krill meals and food-grade frozen krill meats as well as Pharma-grade krill oil, nutraceuticals and Krill Hidrolizates.
Operational Support: Within South Atlantic area, at-sea and on-shore operational support on bunkering and cargo transshipment, on-shore meal bulk-transshipment and on-shore food/feed-grade whole frozen re-processing activities, on-shore and at-sea quality assurance programs, on-shore quality re-assurance plans and logistical and governmental support.
Research & Development: Having supported EU authorities in red meal's Fluorine levels criteria (2000ppm on krill meals as per Commission Directive 2003/100/EC of 31 October 2003). Research on PCB's and Heavy Metals in general supporting EU & USA authorities on red meals assurance level criteria and overall feed-industry ingredient suppliers and organizations such EFAPIT (European Federation of Animal Protein Importers) and IFFO (International Fish Meal and Fish Oil Organization). In association with international-recognized R&D institutes we have developed new technological capabilities that have been used on several krill projects with the support from Russian VNIRO (Russian Federal Research Institute of Fishery and Oceanography), KamchatNIRO, SakhNIRO, AtlantNIRO, former Russian State Fisheries Department and Ukrainian R&D State Organizations.
