Antarctic Krill (Euphausia superba, Dana)

A different Class Feed Ingredient.Heavy Metals’ Case (2003).

The EU import restriction (Directive 2002/32/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of May 7th 2002) related to undesirable substances in animal feeds is fixing a 500ppm Fluorine max level from August 1st 2003 onwards, directive that includes 21 different materials. Tharos report “First Report on The Fluorine in the Antarctic Krill meal, shows that krill meal has a high Fluoride content found in a natural organic form so animals that fed from krill do not incorporate such fluorine in their flesh. Tharos suggested raising the EU Directive level from its proposed 500ppm to a more realistic level close to 2 000ppm. The abstract and attachments go through this ingredient main features and Tharos’ work for the EU on this respect.
